Skarhead - Drugs, Music, Sex

Skarhead is a New York hardcore band who fused traditional hardcore with a wide array of influences. Most notably their hip hop influence which led to them coining the term thugcore. Like a lot of New York bands, they contained members of many of the bands that make up their scene especially because of the revolving door of members. To add to that, this EP features many guest spots from notable NYHC frontmen like Jimmy Williams of Max Pen, Toby H2O and Lou Di Bella of Subzero. I feel like a lot of people are turned off by this band because they try to add humor to the music and change things up in a weird way. If you feel that way, give this EP a chance. It's more or less straight forward hardcore but still manages to be creative if that makes sense. Also, I believe the NYHC riffmaster Mike Dijan played on this record. What more could you ask for?

A lot of people hate this band based on their appearance and the way they decided to go with their sounded but I can honestly say I like every record they have put out. This record came out in the 90's and has a completely different sound than most of their material. It came out on the notable 90's record label, Life Sentence Records.

Threadbare - Self-titled 7"

This is the first release from the 90's hardcore band, Threadbare. They were from Minneapolis and although, weren't very influential, they had a large cult following. These songs mix the creativity and style of bands like 108, Burn and Dismay to make slower but extremely catchy and emotional hardcore. I would say that you can really feel the emotion coming from these songs and I love that. I definitely said something about posting their material, months (maybe even a year) ago so here it is! They released two albums after this before calling it quits.

Covered In Blood: A Tribute To Slayer

This is a tribute album compiled of Slayer covers by hardcore bands. It's "Reign In Blood" covered front to back. They're mostly bands relevant to the late 90's/ Early 2000's. The Arma Angelus cover of "Piece By Piece" is a minute longer than the original and you can barely tell that it's a cover but it's still sounds good haha. Definitely my favorite compilation of Slayer covers especially Sworn Vengeance's, Most Precious Blood's, Punishment's covers.

Troubled Coast - Letters

This was recently submitted to the blog and I have to say that I'm actually a huge fan of this. Troubled Coast are a newer band from California making what I would say is modern post-hardcore with touches of true screamo and post-rock thrown in. They use a balanced mix of clean singing and shouted vocals to really convey emotion in their songs. Some of the songs definitely have a Mewithoutyou feel to them which I definitely liked. This record also contains guest vocals from James Phillips of Final Fight. I can tell from listening to this record that this band is full of talented musicians who know how to play their instruments well and that's definitely something that's lacking in modern music.

Train Of Thought - Bliss

Train of Thought was a 90's hardcore band  from New York. This record is definitely not talked about enough. These songs are great. It features members of Bulldoze and the majority of members of Agents of Man. I would say it's a safe blend of all the things I put in the FFO section of the post.

East Coast Empire Records Presents: Harder They Come, Harder They Fall

Another 90's compilation for me to rant about. I found this not too long ago and it contains some of Connecticut and New York's finest 90's bands. There was only three bands on here that I didn't know but I can say that I like every track which is hard for me when it comes to comps. It starts with an early version of Hatebreed's "Before Dishonor". I always like hearing old recordings of HB tracks so it was definitely awesome to hear. There's an exclusive track by Scott Vogel's Despair, an exclusive Sum Of All Fears song, and a rap remix of Fury Of Five's "Want It All" featuring Ant$$$ of E-Town Concrete (definitely ill). It also has some tracks from awesome 90's bands that aren't exclusive (Divided By Hate, Drowning Room, Stigmata, Follow Through). There's even a early Darkest Hour track which is funny considering where they are now. I know creationisacurse posted this before me. He's gonna die but I'm lazy so I'll let it slide. ;)

Big Jesus - Self-titled EP

Big Jesus is a new rock band from Atlanta, Georgia. I get a really "Fantastic Planet"-era Failure vibe from this which makes me love it. I would say their sound is a healthy mix of 90's alternative/grunge bands. This is one of the few newer releases from a band that I'm really stoked on. This band also contains ex-members of Foundation.

Internal Affairs - Deadly Visions

Internal Affairs was a hardcore band from Los Angeles, California. They broke up about two years ago but had a pretty extensive catalog. This album is pretty much what I think a hardcore album should be. Fast, short and heavy. It's creative enough to keep you interested for the duration of the record. I'll be corny as fuck and say the breaks on this record are awesome. I'll admit that the vocals are kinda hard to get into but you get used to them. This band has some funny, tongue-in-cheek songs coupled in with the many songs about the core on this record. Members of this band were in a ridiculous amount of SoCal. bands also.

Buried Alive & Reach The Sky - Split

This is a lesser known release by two very well known bands. Buried Alive's side is heavy as ever and sounds pretty similar to the "Death Of Your Perfect World" stuff. The quality is kinda weak, I apologize but these songs are exclusive to this release and still worth checking out. I didn't even have the Reach the Sky side of this split until today and I didn't really care previously because I've never been too big on this band. Their side is actually really catchy though. Fast-paced, retains the hardcore structure with some lighter vocals. I also believe these songs were on one of their full lengths but I wouldn't know.

Vision Of Disorder - Self-titled

Vision of Disorder (or commonly abbreviated as VOD) was a hardcore band from Long Island, New York. This record has extreme groove accented by an awesome vocalist and powerful drumming. This was one of the first 90's hardcore records I listened to and it really got me hooked on that style. You can also hear pieces of the awesome genre of Nu-metal leaking through on this album. Completely alright with me.

Morning Again - Hand Of Hope

Last of my "Lost In The Mediafire Vault" series. This is a record by Florida's Morning Again who were a vegan metalcore/hardcore band of the 90's. This record is less metallic than most of their records (I like those ones more) but still has some great songs. Possibly due to the fact that is their first two seven inches compiled into one album. Members of this band were constantly switching members with influential 90's band Culture. It also contained members of Bird Of Ill Omen and the founder of Eulogy Records. This band is an excellent example of a 90's band that actually had something to say.

Make Do and Mend - Intesity In Ten Cities

Make Do and Mend are a pop punk band from Connecticut. They are pretty much blowing up right now and I just happened to find their demo in my mediafire. It's great in it's own way and sounds nothing like what they're currently doing. I had to continue the tradition of posting this picture with Kathleen in it and I don't know if I could really find artwork for this. I could if I cared enough but I don't and this is better anyways.

Indecision - Release The Cure

This was in my mediafire with no downloads. What a fucking shame. This isn't really the traditional Indecision in the sense that it's recorded with the second singer but that doesn't not take away from this record whatsoever. This was the first album I heard by them and it definitely stuck with me. If you didn't like the high voice of "Unorthodox" or "Most Precious Blood", you might be able to get into this. They are reuniting this year on multiple occasions so get into this record (along with their other stuff.) and go get fucking stupid.

Dead Wrong & The Banner - Split

Another hit unearthed from my mediafire. This is a split Connecticut's Dead Wrong and The Banner did. These are the most well recorded material put out by Dead Wrong and shows how they progressed from their somewhat generic Clevo-style (Don't get me wrong, I love this band.). The Banner side is really early material from them and it's what actually made me like them. They're hard but overall pretty generic. Pick up the split on vinyl from Trip Machine Labs.
